The weekend trying out my new bridge camera Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000. I'm sure it will be looked down on by the photography snobs, the kind of people who post photos with the comment 'just a record shot' when they have a lovely pin sharp image, but it certainly more than lives up to my expectations. I was really impressed with the digi-scoping potential as well.
These first pictures below may look shit but there are a few things to take into consideration first...
At Angle Park and the nearby tip yesterday there were 1000+ gulls but they were't really playing ball and the few that were landing on the pit were over 400m away. So these pics are between 400m-500m away taken through scope with wind shake and low light levels...

| Despite most of the gulls hanging in the wind distantly over the nearby tip, a nice total of at least 9 Scandinavian Herring Gull were picked out from the small flock of settled birds. This adult has moulted into breeding plumage so has lost the heavy head streaking and the bill is brighter. Still stands out due to it's bulk, dark mantle and the preening shot below reveals the extent of white in the primaries. |

This one was a cracking example of a Northern Argentatus, a huge brute still with winter head markings and washed out bill colour and very dark mantle.

I didn't just digi-scope with the new camera. Lapwings in flight at Angle Park and from today during a walk along the coast between Carlingnose Point and Inverkeithing a flock of 41 RB Mergansers provided a good subject...
