A phenomenal few days visible migration at Ferryhills from Wen 18th into the weekend. One of the main highlights came from some birds on the deck rather than flying over for a change-up to seven cracking Northern Bullfinch (5 male, 2 fem) feeding on Whitebeam berries in the gully behind the watch point 20th-22nd
I'll dedicate a full post to these at some point.
Numbers have been dominated by Redwings with two massive counts of just over 7,000 (19th and 22nd). The weather conditions dictated that the birds were quite high on the 19th but on 22nd Redwings were streaming past just above head height battling into a stiff breeze- a real spectacle.
In addition to the Northern Bullies the list of scarce/uncommon birds has been excellent. Sunday 22nd was a cracking day with John Nadin who came to see the N Bullfinch. Two site firsts-a Hawfinch flying through with Redwing and 9 Taiga Bean Geese W up the Forth with the backdrop of huge flocks of Redwing swirling around us.
Further good records have included 2 Ring Ouzel flying through with Redwings, 1 Twite, high numbers of Brambling with a peak of 84 on 19th, 3 GN Diver and a Pom Skua heading overland.
