Been out but haven't had that much to shout about. I've spent a bit a time this weekend and last looking for an elusive Great White Egret that has been in the Rossie Bog area without success. Yesterday it was seen at Gaddon Loch so I tried there first thing but no sign; the current snow and icy conditions are probably pushing it around in search of foraging.
I tried Rossie after and went along the footpath from the Dunshalt road to the bridge over the Rossie drain; this water has movement so is free of ice (Grey Heron present) but no sign of the big white one. Another factor was the shooting going on.
Also as part of my run round Central Fife wetlands this morn I called in at Angle park which is always a good bet for large numbers of gulls resting on the ice-there were some nice examples of Scandinavian Herring Gulls present including a big dark mantled brute from the northern end of the range.
I also had some evidence of hard weather movement from the house in Dunfermline-150 Skylark and 150 Pink-footed Geese over, the count of larks particularly notable for my suburban location.
Today was certainly a scenic one in Fife; looking towards the Lomond Hills from Rossie Bog
This brute of a Scandi Herring Gull was presumably from the northern most population, it had a particularly dark mantle.
A second Argentatus to the right with more of a hood.
Last week a site visit for work in South Lanarkshire gave great views of a Weasel and an impressive gathering of 35 Raven round a dead sheep.
