A surprise flyover Lap Bunting while doing a VP in North Ayrshire.
Feb 16th.
River Tyne, Haddington, East Lothian.
Took the missus to her favourite bead shop in Haddington and then on to a very pleasant cafe with a window looking over the River Tyne. While looking out the window onto the river, I suddenly realised that amongst the usual suspects being fed bread were up to 11 Goosander including some stunning drakes. These birds were ridiculously tame and I was gutted that I didn't have a camera. A search on the net reveals this behaviour to be fairly widespread with Goosander although it was the first time I had seen it. More unusual was a red head Goldeneye also getting in amongst it..wonder if this behaviour has been documented for this species.
Will be back with my own bread at some point..
