Just a few pics of some other wildlife from my travels around Scotland this summer-

Two Adder in Dumfries and Galloway in May including a particularly impressive  male.

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary in Strathclyde last week. My first sightings of the year, this species  is locally  common in the Scottish uplands.

Large Heath also in Strathclyde last week. This species has previously been off my radar , but I suddenly realised  that some of the heaths flying around looked wrong for Small Heath, in particular the prominent ringed eye spots on the under hind wing. I found 10+ individuals in a very boggy area, good habitat for the species. The prominent eyes indicate this is of the form polydama, found in Southern Scotland, N England, Wales and Ireland. In N. Scotland the form scotica lacks spots and is closer in appearance to Small Heath.
