Just a few pics of some other wildlife from my travels around Scotland this summer-

Two Adder in Dumfries and Galloway in May including a particularly impressive male. |

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary in Strathclyde last week. My first sightings of the year, this species is locally common in the Scottish uplands. |

Large Heath also in Strathclyde last week. This species has previously been off my radar , but I suddenly realised that some of the heaths flying around looked wrong for Small Heath, in particular the prominent ringed eye spots on the under hind wing. I found 10+ individuals in a very boggy area, good habitat for the species. The prominent eyes indicate this is of the form polydama, found in Southern Scotland, N England, Wales and Ireland. In N. Scotland the form scotica lacks spots and is closer in appearance to Small Heath. |
