Feb 17th
A glorious morning to be out and about but couldn't find much in the way of noteable birds, ended up at Loch Gelly, Fife where there was no sign of any Smew or an Iceland Gull. It was something non avian that stole the show; I was suddenly aware of a lot of duck clearing off the water at the Southern end in a panick and I got onto a superb dog Otter swimming along the reed edge. Distant but good  prolonged scope views as it swam along, occassionally diving. It eventually moved off into the reedbed where it's progress could still be charted as an indignant Grey Heron took to the air. Forgot how long, thick and upturned their tails are.
