July 21st Letham Pools, Fife.
My first visit since coming back from holiday, I was wondering if they might have dried up given the prolonged heatwave, but no, still in top condition and it was straight back in with another quality wader-Adult Pec Sand on the north side of the minor road. I picked it up being typically unobtrusive as it stood on the edge of a small vegetated island. It then crept off in amongst the vegetation and I didn't see again in the remaining time I was there. It was presumably still around however. No pics as the little bugger crept out of view before I raised the camera.
Also a Quail giving it some wet my lips in cereals on the south side of the road, while other things on the pools included 2 LRP, 9 Common Sands, 12 Snipe and a female Shoveler with 10 ducklings. I think it's the first time I have ever seen young-un's and it is listed as a scarce breeder in Fife.
Later in the day on the Fife/P and K border along the River Tay, an Osprey seen perched distantly and then two birds, perhaps including the earlier one, seen circling over the road between Newburgh and Jamesfield (just over the border in P and K-sorry Fife year listers)
The Scottish Borders last week-
Some survey work in amazing weather conditions, while preparing a post work Barbecue with fellow ecologists on the patio of our accommodation a Hobby zipped through a flock of Swifts and Hirundines. The survey site also turned up two young LE Owl-my first squeakers in a long time and a male Hen Harrier.
