Cracking visible migration watch on the patch at Ferryhill.
Highlights included a calling Sibe Chiffchaff bush hopping SW, 2 GN Diver migrating inland (One in summer plumage), 3 Great Skua migrating inland, a site record count of 21 Whooper Swan, 12 Brambling and 11 Crossbill. Thrushes also on the move with a total of 81 Mistle Thrush the most noteworthy.

The only shot I manged of a mobile Sibe Chiffchaff as it bush hopped SW. You can just about get an impression of the cold grey brown plumage tones lacking olive and yellow. The bird called frequently with a classic flat sad sounding peep typical of tristis. |

A summer plumaged Great Northern Diver migrating inland along the Forth Valley. I'd established that the Forth was an autumn migration flyway for small numbers of GND from watches nearby at Carlingnose Point in recent years. I've had birds in early September before, but the peak period for sightings seems to be the second half of October. |
