Last week a couple of very nice raptors while working down in D and G...Juv male Goshawk and Ad male Hen Harrier.

The weekend. Saturday was another great day for visible migration at Ferryhills with excellent variety, numbers and one probable rarity.

A very late Tree Pipit type calling and flying past not far away from me was very likely a much rarer Olive-backed Pipit. Like a bird I had on Sept 30th it had a subtly different call to the many Tree Pipits I've heard this autumn ( Not  so drawn out) and I even managed a few plumage details including greenish toned upperparts and a contrasting white belly. It could have done me a favour and paused on the telegraph wires like many of the Tree Pips have done this autumn.
Making up the numbers were Mistle Thrush with another spectacular count of 246, this means FH now has the highest and second highest UK counts for this species on Trektellen following the previous weekends even higher count. Other good counts included a site record 220 Skylark.

Sunday was slow going with the wind getting up and subduing movement although I noted the first Fieldfare of the autumn and 2 Grey Plover, an unusual species for here.

I didn't take many pics this weekend so a few more from the previous weeks visible migration at Ferryhills

Barnacle Geese heading up the Forth on route from Svalbard to the Solway Firth

This Jay was picked up as tiny dot approaching from the North.

A line of Mistle Thrush pauses on the wires before lifting off across the Forth
