Today. Winter has returned with biting easterly gales and snow flurries. The best option seemed to be a walk along the coastal path between N.Queensferry and Inverkeithing to see if seabirds were sheltering from the storms. If it had been in the autumn all kinds of scarce seabirds could have been on the cards but the time of year  was always likely to limit variety. As expected the main species affected were Kittiwakes and Guillemots. It was great to see the Kitts up close, lovely birds. The Guillemots were not coping with the weather so well, looking weak. Inevitably some were being picked off by large gulls.
Hopefully the storms will abate soon as previous conditions like this in March have prevented auks from feeding resulting in mass mortality including large numbers of Puffin.
Also seen along the coast today were an adult Med Gull and 2 GN Diver.

I've also been getting to know the Eden Estuary a bit last week. One of Fifes well known sites that I've not really spent much time at. Sitting in hides has never been my favourite kind of birding but I must admit it was welcome on Friday in a biting E wind. No doubt due to the conditions a numbers of interesting birds were taking  shelter with 16 Scaup, a GN Diver and 55 Kittiwake.
An earlier visit on Tuesday produced a Little Egret and 24 Whooper Swan which flew through to the NW.
