Week off continues.
All at Ferry Hills Oct 17th-21st.

After abandoning the patch on Tuesday 16th I put in five consecutive morning vis mig sessions. It was a great week for migration in terms of numbers, variety and quality.
Highlights were yet more Hawfinch with singles on 18th and 20th bringing the autumns total to ten birds. This raises some interesting questions as  this is still a scarce species in Fife. Perhaps this species is like Tree Pipit, another Ferry Hills speciality now being  detected through intensive coverage. Another species that looks to be a site speciality within Fife is Taiga Bean Goose, 15 birds flew west on 18th, following on from a few sightings last autumn.
Other stand out records included a Waxwing today (21st), fairly early in the autumn for the species so perhaps indicative of a good Waxwing winter on the way. Crossbills and Bramblings have been in excellent numbers with site record counts for both this week (41 Crossbill and 183 Brambling both on 18th).
Thrushes were steady without having any really big mornings with peaks of 456 Fieldfare (17th) and 408 Redwing (20th).

Redwing and Fieldfare provided the numbers this week.

Excellent numbers of Crossbills continue to move through

A small number of Whooper Swans this week with a peak of twelve (18th).
