The Highlands recently

The highlight was a displaying Wood Sandpiper, my first experience of this species on territory. A yodelling song a bit like a lower faster version of a redshank. The bird also gave triple yip calls I'm used to hearing from migrants, plus a more continous chipping that sounded like an alarm call. The bird seemed to be reacting to a Roe Deer crossing the area, as did nearby pairs of redshank.
The low point of last week was sitting with my back to the great glen not realising that an amazing passage of LT Skuas was probably taking place behind me.
