Late August has seen some productive watches at Ferry Hills. We are getting past the peak period for Tree Pipit now so it doesn't look like we will break the record day count this year. But the run of impressive numbers  has continued with more three figure counts (162 on 20th, 198 on 21st and 139 on 24th). The 24th was a particularly good day all round. The bro was up from the Isle of Wight and got to experience FH at its best with some great variety. There were terns (including 31 Arctic migrating inland), ducks (including 6 Shoveler, scarce here), waders (including 5 Whimbrel and 11 Black-tailed Godwit), hirundines (inlcuding 200 Sand Martin). It wasn't all about birds passing over with 2 Redstart and 3 Spotted Flycatcher on the deck as well.

Some of a  flock of 22 Arctic Tern climbing high into the sky as they prepare to migrate overland.

Three Spotted Flycatcher on the 24th with other birds flying straight through on 21st and 25th.

A day out away from the patch with the bro on Friday 23rd. Firstly a tour of some Fife wetland sites (fairly quiet, best was 3 Ruff at the Wilderness) then into Perth and Kinross where the highlights were Osprey, Nuthatch (still rather localised in Scotland) and a cracking Comma butterfly (also still rather localised in Scotland).
