Arrival of Thrushes October 6th:
East winds and rain saw a big movement of Redwing on the Sunday morning with 2,170 counted. With the rain easing off in the afternoon I returned and was treated to 8 Ring Ouzel arriving from the north, a species that is normally very scarce here. It turned out that a very big arrival of Ouzels had taken place on the east cost, birds from Scandinavia that arrived under the same conditions as the Redwing e.g. 50 Ring Ouzel on the Isle of May, which was a good count even for them.
Since then Ring Ouzel have been almost daily in occurrence, most birds have been on active migration flying through but two birds gave good views feeding on Whitebeam Berries (13th). My autumn total of these handsome thrushes now stands at about 23 birds.

An exceptional autumn for Ring Ouzel. |

October 13th-Finally, Yellow-browed Warbler added to the Ferry Hills list.
Long overdue but no less exciting to get this species, particularly when my co-observer Sandy and I realised that two were present in the Long-tailed Tit flock.
The YBW were part of a noticeable fall of birds on the 13th with Robins, Song Thrushes and Blackbird all over the place. Also on that date overhead passage chipped in with some good birds-a close GN Diver and 2 Little Gull (flying inland with a flock of Kittiwake) and a point blank Merlin raced past.
