April 6th-
First day of my easter break down on the Isle of Wight. Cold and bright start, the clear skies not conducive for a fall of migrants but very pleasant conditions to be out and about in.A walk around the Brading Marsh area did turn up a few migrants.
Three White Wagtails included a very smart male that came off a muddy pool and perched in a tree.
A Water Pipit was perhaps left over from previous months as this is a traditional wintering location while a definite new arrival was a singing male Reed Warbler; a fairly early one come to think of it. Other personal firsts for the year were 2 House Martin, 1 Swallow and 3 Willow Warbler. Add in usual Brading suspects such as Cettis Warblers, Little Egret, Med Gull and Water Rail and it was a nice start to the holiday.
