Sept 11th-17th
More vis migging on the Forth at Carlingnose Point.
The main species continue to be Bonxie and Red-throated Diver heading headland, with peaks of 17 of the former and 30 of the latter. Surprised at how determined these two are to battle inland into what has become an increasingly strong SW/W breeze this week. Last weekend in lighter winds Bonxie and Arctic Skua were fairly evenly matched but Bonxies have taken over this week which makes me think this more powerful species is better able to fly into the wind. Best bird was a moulting ad GN Diver also heading inland.
Of the small birds, steady trickle of Mipits and a locally scarce Lesser Whitethroat, which was in the same place as one in late August. It was even giving some brief snatches of song. Wonder if this is a summering individual rather than a migrant? Certainly some good breeding habo along the coastal path.
