April 15th-19th
Survey work in the Borders-
Migrant Osprey moving North, my first Gropper of the year, rapid increase in swallow and sand martin plus my first House Martin. A super area for breeding waders-Snipe chipping and drumming, Golden Plover and Redshank territories. 200 Fieldfare was a decent flock for the date.

April 21st.
Fife.
Nearly didn't bother going out with the uninspiring early morning weather-blustery SW Wind and showers. Glad I did though. Started off at Rossie Bog where there was some decent flood pools but not a lot of birds, with a White Wag the best on offer. Then I remembered someone texting out 2 LRP at Letham last weekend. This area of flooded fields adjacent to some gravel workings has turned up some good birds over the years but often dry's up quickly in the spring before it gets really interesting.
Was pleasantly surprised to pull up and find not only plenty of water, but plenty of birds. A total of 17 White Wags were mainly favouring nearby ploughed fields looked extra good against the brown background. I think this is probably the most of these I've seen together. Then best of all, a stunning Drk Garganey materialised amongst the numerous dabblers (including 24 Gadwall and 12 Shoveler). At first it looked like I was going to have make do with 8 Ringed Plover and a smart summer Dunlin, but then 2 LRP completed a very satisfactory scene further enhanced by plenty of hirundines, and territorial Lapwing and Redshank.

Letham in top condition , just hope it lasts through till May.
