Last week I was mostly doing Bat surveys in the Borders, although it didn't all involve stumbling round in the dark. On Monday there was evidence of an influx of butterflies onto the moor, presumably migrants had come up with the very hot airflow. Stacks of Peacocks including 10+ nectaring on water mint by a small burn and also a Painted Lady nectaring on heather. Best bird was a Juv Cuckoo seen running around picking up earth worms on a ploughed field.
I called into Letham on wen evening and there was still a good variety of waders, the same range of species as recently with the highlights being a Juv LRP and 7 Ruff.
August 31st Carlingnose Pt.
My first Skuas of the autumn heading inland; 4 Arctic and 5 Bonxie.

Probably the last one of these I'll see this year. |
