Barns Ness area.
Bloody cold for the second day of May. The cold windy conditions had halted a few migrants mainly White Wags, Hirundines and a few Wheatear.
It was actually nearby Whitesands Quarry that was most lively with a large number of hirundines feeding low over the water (mainly Sand Martin, around 250), a nice congregation of 13 White Wagtail along the shoreline and single Common Sand and Dunlin. Another White Wag on the shore at Barns Ness and 3 Whimbrel.
Today..
The weather was even worse; cold and wet. Somewhat optimistically I had convinced myself that the rain and SE winds would have grounded flocks of Wood Sands and Garganey at Letham which I could watch from the comfort of the car. The reality was a face full of rain and very little to look at.
The good news is Bank Holiday Monday is going to be much better, even in Scotland.
