Last weekend..
A visit to Vane Farm on the evening of the 4th didn't produce any waders but a female Shoveler was right infront of the Carden Hide with 4 ducklings and 2 unseasonable Pink-footed Goose also present.
On the 5th at Letham no sign of the Hobby, 2 Redshank chicks still going strong and a Black-tailed Godwit was a new arrival.
Two weeks ago the heatwave coincided with me doing some survey work in the Highlands, not surprisingly the warmth finally got the insects going after all the cool wet weather. I saw my first dragons of the year; four spot chaser and golden ringed, small pearl bordered fritillary butterfly and a beautiful yellow underwing moth. The latter was new to me,  I don't really do moths but this one was certainly a real looker. Also mildly surprising was a male Cuckoo still calling on June 30th; satellite tracking as shown that many Cuckoos have already left Britain by the end of June but perhaps this is another reflection of how late spring has been this year.

The photo dosen't do it justice, a striking moth. The beautiful yellow underwing.

Lat year one Common Spotted Orchid on our lawn at Dunfermline, this year three. Hopefully more next year. In addition to benefiting nature it cuts down on the amount of grass I have to cut.

Orchid in more remote setting; a Fragrant in the Highlands.
