Probably my last visit of the year with the autumn passage at an end. It wasn't too bad considering the late date with a few things going over including a Brambling and 3 Crossbill.
Sunday, Valleyfield Lagoons/Preston Island..
A Shorelark had been seen here so decided to try somewhere different. The Western end of Fife is rather neglected compared to the East but provides some decent habitat along the Inner Forth. Although there is a good footpath network the area where the Shorelark was seen is fenced off although if the bird had been exactly where it was found there was certainly a chance of seeing it from the path with a scope. No such luck but the morning wasn't without interest with a Snow Bunting flying over and 4 Scaup and a Greenshank on the Lagoon.
4 Scaup on the lagoon, 1 1st w drake, 1 Ad female and 2 1st winter female. |
Nice to see 4 Common or Harbour Seals hauled out off Preston Island. The name Common Seal certainly isn't accurate on the E coast of Scotland where the population has declined by more than 50%. |
In the 'banana posture' characteristic of the species. |
