Last week..
Driving up the A9 an impressive group of at least 15 male Black Grouse feeding in fields right by the roadside (not leking).
Saturday
Second migration watch of the spring at Ferryhills, still fairly quiet, but slowly but surely the signs of spring increase. A singing Chiffchaff was new in and there was a little more variety on the move overhead with in addition to a trickle of Meadow Pipits, a couple of flocks of Pink-feet, 2 alba wags and a grey wag. The local birds also reflecting the time of year including three Stock Dove in vigorous display flying a circuit around the hill and then landing on wires.
Later at Letham a smart Greenland White-fronted Goose in with the Pink-feet flock. An uncommon bird in Fife, Letham during the spring is a reliable site to get one.
Greenland White front, above and European White-front, below, taken in January for comparison
Also at Letham an arrival of 12 Shoveler, none seen the previous weekend.
