June is one of those months that should never be written off for birding, conventional migration is done but it's a month that often throws up some surprises. You need a bit of faith and that's how it was this morning as I scanned a largely empty sky from the patch at Ferryhills. I'd just been following a flock of Greylag Geese (desperate times) when my bins locked on a large white bird which proved to be a 1st summer Spoonbill making it's way west over the Forth Rail Bridge. A Scottish first and patch first for me and a pretty rare local bird, not quite annual in Fife.
It was too far for a photo so I concentrated on watching it through the scope.
Also 4 Crossbill over.
No sign of the Reed Warbler in Duloch Park.
Lot's of Ringlet on the wing at Ferryhills now. |
Sand Martins were showing well at Letham yesterday flying low into a blustery south-west wind. |
Tree Pipit on territory in Dumfries and Galloway last week. |
