The wind went round into the N to NW which is less conducive for passerine movement. Passage has been steady without any really big numbers of anything but decent variety. Meadow Pipits may well have peaked the previous weekend and were down to more typical numbers during my visits on Thurs to Sunday (Around the 250-300 mark each day). I had a single Tree Pipit on September 14th which might well be the last of the year for the site (last date in 2016-Sept 17th). In fact if I hear a Tree Pipit after mid September its going to be well worth getting a recording of the call or hoping that it lands for a bit just in case it's a much rarer Olive-backed!
Other species more typical of late autumn have started to become more obvious such as finches and also the first Pink-footed Geese. The first two Great Northern Diver of the autumn flew inland on Saturday morning and both Sat and Sun their was evidence of a small arrival of Song Thrush.
Skuas have been lacking at Ferryhills with just a handful of Bonxie heading inland. A visit to Kinghorn on Sat afternoon on the other hand was very productive with 1 pale Juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 1 Pom Skua, at least 35 Arctic Skua, 16 Bonxie and a Black Tern.
