Last weekend..

Really pushing my luck with visible migration  at this late stage in the far North but I had a very nice finish to the season last weekend at Ferryhills. The highlight was my third Hawfinch of the autumn (18th), not totally unexpected in this, the year of the Hawfinch, but there are still relatively few making it up to Scotland. This was also my best encounter with the bird flying around for a bit and even landing very briefly before bombing off NW into Fife.
Other highlights were yet another record of Taiga Bean Geese with two birds W up the Forth (15th), FH has had a great run of records of these this autumn, while  two Woodcock and 5 Whooper Swan were noted (17th).
Also not forgetting the superb N Bullfinches, all 8 still present and showing well at times. In fact there is no reason why they shouldn't stay all winter if the food supply is adequate and I'll be back to check in the New Year.
