Nice to catch up with the first summer Caspian Gull at Leven early this morning. After being found on Friday night it was still present Sat morning but then flew off so my hopes weren't high. Heavy rain this morning made it hard work for taking pictures but the views were pretty good and it looked to be a fairly classic looking bird.
Still a rare bird in Scotland I've spent a lot of time over a few winters trying to find one in Fife and Leven was one of the spots I tried, but going on this record perhaps wandering immature birds in spring should be the focus for trying to find another?
After this a trip up to Fife Ness/Kilminning in the hope of the rain grounding migrants wasn't overly productive although a singing Grasshopper Warbler was my first of the year and a quick look at the sea produced 12 Arctic Tern, 22 Common Tern and a dark morph Arctic Skua.
