Saturday 5th at Ferryhills saw just very light passage with the highlight 8 Arctic Terns that flew up to the bridges before u turning.
Sunday 6th saw me go off patch up the E Neuk of Fife on what must have been the warmest day of the year in Scotland. The highlight was very close views of a male Yellow Wagtail near Crail in an area where breeding has taken place in recent years. Stunning birds.
Nearby at Crail Airfield 7 Wheatear were present in a ploughed field and on the way back I dropped into see the long staying Black-necked Grebe that has wintered in Elie Harbour.
Another highlight was the number of singing Corn Buntings on the E Neuk with 9 singing males noted between Crail and Elie just from the roadside (several from a moving car with the window down). For a species whose status is one of rapid decline in UK it is heartening to see that a conservation initiative between the RSPB and local farmers in this area is making a difference.
