Sept 5th, 7th and 8th.
Visible migration watches at Ferry Hills. Showers and poor vis didn't help for some of the watches but Sat 8th was a good one. Meadow Pipit (780) and Siskin (158) were the main movers. A count of 13 Tree Pipit was decent for the relatively late date. Variety was boosted by some seabirds heading inland with the first GN Diver of the autumn, 1 Bonxie and 2 Arctic Skua.

Today. I decided on a change of scene and headed up to Kingsbarns in case the Buff-breasted Sandpiper seen yesterday was still about. No luck, but there is a huge amount of fields where this species could be feeding. I didn't expect too much else in the way of migrants with the wind in the south-west but there were a few nice birds along the coastal path including 2 Yellow Wagtail, single Whinchat and Wheatear with a lovely crisp Juv Arctic Tern resting on the shore.
Painted Lady Butterflies were prominent along the coast path at Kingsbarns with at least 7 seen today. |
