Sunday 9th December

It was nice to catch up with a Water Pipit at Ruddons Point, a rare bird in Fife but perhaps overlooked as a wintering bird amongst Rock Pipits along the coast. Certainly this species is expected in small numbers on the Lothian side of the Forth these days.

I had good views of a bird feeding around a seaweed pile on the path to the point, I thought it was a bit suspect that as soon as I walked round to Cocklemill Marsh some observers there had also just seen a Water Pipit. Not a massive distance involved, but far enough to make us wonder if there were two birds. Sure enough later in the day two were seen together at Cocklemill.
