The view from house

Although our back garden in suburban Dunfermline is a bit of an ornithological desert the view out front is much more interesting as we look onto a drainage pond which is fringed by reeds and a native planting scheme. I'm still waiting for the big one to turn up(and probably will be for a long time!) but it is certainly nice to wake up to a dawn chorus that deviates from the standard with for example singing Reed Bunt, Sedge Warbler and Little Grebe. Little Grebes didn't breed on our pond this year but Moorhens produced 3 young and Tufted Duck 4 young. Well the Tufty started out with 4 but now 3. Probably no coincidence that one morning when I was leaving for work I heard the female giving agitated calls and a Lesser Black-back flying in...

Tufty young down from 4 to 3 but hopefully
the other's have learnt to head for the
cover of the reeds when LBBG'S are
                                          around.
