March 18th
Another glorious spring day although still a bit early up here to expect much in the way of summer migrants. There were still signs of spring to be found on my early morning travels round Fife with a trickle of Mipits heading North at Rossie Bog as well as a Grey Heron carrying a stick into a plantation. Also noted here were a female Merlin, 3 Water Rail, small number of Shoveler, Pintail and some confiding Wigeon grazing. No goose flocks seen in the fields with the only ones being a small flock of Pinkies heading North.
Nearby a singing Chiffchaff was at Pitmedden Forest; most likely a new arrival given the inland location and relative scarcity of wintering birds in Fife, while more mipits went North.

Later a drive into Highland Perthshire and a goose flock was found in fields by the River Tay between Ballinluig and Grandtully. Around 360 Greylag but the only other geese were 2 Pinkies. Also 4 Whoopers and a few Wigeon. Groups of yelping Common Gull returning to breeding sites.
