Caribbean Seabird pics-

It wasn't the best time of year for the seabirds in this part of the world with many away from breeding colonies out at sea. I still mopped up the hoped for species with the added advantage of being able to scan from the ship as we moved between the Islands. The real highlight was getting the two tropicbirds, no photos as both species were encountered flying rapidly past the ship at sea. The 2 adult White- tailed I came across were a long way from land-approximately 800 nautical miles from the nearest Island of Barbuda.
Other species were more obliging-

Brown Booby. A common species inshore around the islands.

Masked Booby. This bird following the ship into St Lucia was a nice bonus as the birds of the West Indies describes it as a rare and local resident.

Magnificent Frigatebirds were common around the harbours. Prehistoric looking sums these up.

Not everything was exotic; Lesser Black-backed gull is a rare but increasing vagrant in the W. Indies, although Locally common on Bermuda. I had four birds on Antigua and three in Phillipsburgh Harbour, Saint Martin where this pic was taken
