Mostly been about visible migration at some of my Fife patches lately; Last week on Thursday an opportunity for an early morning visit to Carlingnose Point in promising fresh easterlies but not much evidence of seabirds being moved into the Forth. A total of 19 Whimbrel including a flock of 14 calling directly overhead was a good record for there though.
Even better at Carlingnose this morning was Hobby heading West, love em but don't get to seem them often in Scotland. My first in Fife and only my second in Scotland. Another good local bird was a Lesser Whitethroat.
Yesterday at Kincraig Point, despite the sea generally being quiet in an unhelpful strong westerly two nice birds were seen with a Sooty Shearwater and Arctic Skua. Small birds were still battling into the strong wind and it was nice to get eye level views of Swallows, H Martin and Sand Martin on the move from my clifftop watch point. A group of 6 Swift were seen departing out to sea; could well be my last of the year.
Back to today and an afternoon visit to Letham found the water levels still very high so not great for waders which is a shame as it looks as though a bit of an influx of Ruff, Little Stint, Curlew Sand is taking place round Britain at the moment.
