A Black-browed Albatross off Lothian the evening of 29th was a major incentive to squeeze in some sea-watching before work on Friday morning. I figured the quickest option from home for a site on the Forth that had a reasonable chance would be Kinghorn but no Albatross. The sea was lively with common seabirds including 120 Puffin, while signs of the first autumn movement were a Velvet Scoter and 12 Teal past.
I tried Kinghorn again yesterday afternoon not realising that the Albatross was already back in Germany but once again there were plenty of common seabirds to look at.
Today a vis mig watch on the patch at Ferryhills was fairly lively for the time of the year with some typical signs of early return passage, mostly dominated by Sand Martins heading into the fresh westerly wind. There was also a small passage of Curlew to the west (something that I'd also noticed at Kinghorn yesterday). Full totals here
